You Need A Posse The Size of The Nazi’s To Attack This…

April 22, 2008 · 2 Comments

Did you know the olympic torch was a tradition created by the nazis?  The story is that when germany hosted the games in berlin, they lit a torch on mount olympus and used long distance runners to carry it all the way back to germany.  It wasn’t a Greek tradition at all.  I think its kind of screwed up that we continue this tradition.  I read that this year China is planning on taking the torch across the world.  Oh well. A sign on your window that says “All Day Breakfast” is almost as attractive to me as a sign that reads “Free Money”. We hit this little joint named the “Olympic Flame Cafe” out of sheer convenience for lunch one day. Surprisingly enough I didn’t order breakfast.  Best believe the sandwich and burgers were on point though. I hit up the BLT with a side of chowder (chow-derrrr) and a fat dill pickle.  Then it was back to the grill.

Tell me when to go?

April 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So what’s the first thing I’m gonna do when i reach San Francisco?  Obviously I’m hitting up Pier 39 for that famous bread bowl chowder i heard all about (Dumb Dumb Dumb).  As you can see it was a beautiful day and we had our stunner shades on.

Pier 39 is basically the tourist draw of the city.  A variety of different vendors offer a variety of different chowders for a variety of different prices.  We decided to hit the one that let you drink beer in the open areas, The Crab Stand.  I spiced mine up with some pepper and Tabasco sauce, guzzled down my pint of anchor steam (a little bitter) AND THEN I ATE THE BOWL!  It was real good too, eh.   The prices range up and down the pier from as high as $8 (if you eat at a restaurant) to as low as $5.25 (the ghetto bowl).  There are plenty spaces to sit on the dock so don’t waste your money on a restaurant, especially when they let you take beers “to go”.

I Dillied, Dallied, Ran Through An Alley…

March 2, 2008 · 6 Comments

and found this bomb ass sandwich spot…  If you want good TOP value on a sandwich in Vancouver then look no further than The Social in Gastown.  This inconveniently located spot (well pretty convenient if you live or work in Gastown) merks all other sandwich spots hands down.  The sandwich below is a half (feeds 2) and costs 7.50 with a bag of in-house made chips that are well seasoned.  For twice as much sandwich its only 10.00 (feeds 2 fatties) and an extra bag of chips is only $1.  They make several meats in-house as well and all the toppings are fresh.  Good selection of veggies and my only gripe would be that there was only one type of bread (focaccia) until TODAY!   They introduced…. TOMATO FOCACCIA!   The bread is a bit greasy but still delicious.  My suggestion is the Turkey/Sopprasetta with all the veggies (lettuce, tomato, roasted  veggie medley, onions, banana peppers, pickles) with aoli mayo and sriracha sauce.  Just to see you smile and enjoy yourself…

Still E.A.T (Street)

party-044.jpg

Has anyone else noticed that Alife has been closed for about a week? There have been rumours circling for sometime about the sale of this space and the closing of Alife Vancouver. Personally i would be sad to see this store go; they do good parties from time to time and i have always appreciated the aesthetics of the spot. Word on the (eat)street is another Vancouver retailer will be opening a second store at this location. There have also been whispers of Supreme opening a gastown location, and of 24 reopening (previously Richard Kidd, previously 24 [Yaletown]). It would be interesting to see how another shop faired in the location, hopefully the store aesthetics are not compromised. I guess only time will tell.

More food posts coming soon. Eatstreet is the name still ahead of the game. Representing for the gangsters all across the world… Still got love for the (Eat) street.

And Party And Bullshit And Party And Bullshit….

February 24, 2008 · 4 Comments

Throwing a party is pretty simple. Having thrown plenty in my lifetime i have it down to a fine science. The one aspect of parties that i have always avoided has been food. If you were at one of my parties and there were appetizers or self serve plates its probably because someone else brought it or set it up. The flip side of this is that i love when food is provided at parties. What to provide? Well its really quite simple…eat5.jpg

Cheese is good. Everyone likes it, it tastes better when you’re drunk and best of all it takes little or no preparation. I was so into this cheese plate that i forgot all about how wack this party actually was. Blue cheese, Brie Cheese, Gorgonzola, are all good choices. The creamier ones tend to be the biggest hits however they are also the biggest mess to clean up, especially if people like me start getting wild and throwing it around.

Beer is also a good choice.  You don’t have to set it up on the alley dumpster but you get the idea.  Here we feature the infamous BitBurger, not really sure where its from but it definitely did the job.  In fact i barely remember taking this photo or the other 20 that were on my camera.

Providing people with an intimate environment in which to consume alcoholic beverages should be enough.  However people are always going to complain and want more.  If you pour all your money into throwing a dope party and providing drinks like above then its OK if you skimp on the food.   Dutil’s latest product release party was a hit, however…

I decided not to sample the onions and curry sauce.  “Can i have 3 scoops of onions please?” yea, that would make your breath smell real good.  This one lands on the WTF pile.  Goose got me loose, dro got me lo…

East To West, Even If You’re Wearing A Vest…

February 21, 2008 · 1 Comment

They’re gonna find you with a shawarma stain on your chest…. If we are talking value (and we always are) this is literally the jump off. These places are littered all over the city, Denman, Davie, Granville, Pender, Robson, Broadway, Commercial etc etc. I know they can smell funny and sometimes look less than appetizing but believe me, grab a plate, pay the 5-7$ (depending on location), get the yogurt garlic and the hot sauce and enjoy. You will be full, you won’t be broke and you may not know what you ate but damn it’s good. Generally the plate is going to have rice, chicken beef or lamb (your choice) smothered in garlic yogurt and hot sauce, hummus, pita and tabouleh (?). What the fuck is tabouleh you say? It’s the thing thats gonna clean all that garlic and hot sauce off your breath so you can still talk to girls (OH SNAP!). As usual Eatstreet brings you our favorite venue, located on the drive, this particular joint also serves Samosas for $1.80 each with a variety of choices. And their monday special can’t be beat. Boom Biddy Bye Bye.

Chinese New Year, Braaaat Braaaat….

February 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This one is so easy even you smart-dumb cooks can get it right.  Chop up all them left over veggies and meats that are going bad in your fridge and clean em off.  Boil some water in your wok and throw in the thing that takes longest to cook.  Make sure you put the lid on that shit so it steams everything up nice and quick.  You need to keep adding water and sauce to taste (I’m using oyster sauce), make sure the sauce doesn’t burn by keeping enough water in the pan.  Noodles are last and just heat em till they get nice and soft.   If you time it just right i’ll be at your door and your eyes are like why are you here?   4.jpg2.jpg1.jpg
